Step 1: INITIAL ASSESSMENT

A range of standardised and non standardised assessments will be used to gain a thorough understanding of the child’s strengths and challenges. These assessments may take one to two sessions, depending on the child’s age and the time it takes to administer.

The data gathered from these assessments will be supported by information collected from parents and/or care givers, teachers and other professionals through a phone call or by completing a questionnarie. Once this information is gathered and reviewed, a report outlining the results, goals and recommendations will be prepared.

We will schedule a free parent consultation to discuss the findings, and to review and prioritise the measurable and meaningful goals and to present an intervention plan.

If your child has completed an OT assessment in the past, please let us know so we can adapt our services accordingly.

Step 2: INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Our sessions run for 45 minutes. A weekly therapy session at our clinic will be scheduled. Where necessary, home and/or school visits can be arranged. A home program will be offered to help support the development of skills that have been outlined in the report. The child’s goals will be closely monitored throughout the process, and feedback will be offered on a regular basis. Where appropriate, communication between the child’s teachers and other involved professionals will be carried out.

SCHOOL SCREENINGS

Free school screenings are available for pre school, pre primary and Year 1 children. These will take place on the pre-school or school campus, and can involve all of the children in the class, or specific children who are identified by the parents, classroom teacher or other staff. The screening will include a short observation and informal assessment of age appropriate skills, such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills and visual perceptual skills. The results of the screenings will be shared with the school staff and parents and recommendations based on the results will be made available.
